Sistem Monitoring Tegangan Otot Berbasis Elektromiograf (EMG) Pada Terapi Gangguan Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) dengan Internet of Things (IoT)

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and decreased mobility. Effective physical therapy requires continuous monitoring and adjustment based on the patient’s condition. Without proper monitoring, rehabilitation progress may be hindered. In response to this challenge, a team led by Hidayat Nur Isnianto from the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology (TRIK) Study Program has developed an electromyography (EMG)-based muscle tension monitoring system using the Internet of Things (IoT) to support DMD therapy. This research was conducted at the Instrumentation and Control Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Informatics Engineering, Vocational College UGM for six months starting from May 2024.The system utilizes an EMG sensor to measure muscle electrical activity during therapy sessions. The signal data is transmitted in real-time to an ESP32 module, which processes and sends the data to an IoT platform. This allows therapists and clinicians to monitor patient progress remotely and adjust therapy intensity as needed. This innovation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and supports Indonesia’s flagship agenda for independence in medical device technology.

This system is expected to significantly contribute to the development of locally engineered medical equipment, enabling more accurate real-time monitoring and improving therapy effectiveness for DMD patients. Ultimately, this innovation aims to improve patient quality of life through responsive and personalized therapeutic interventions.
